Chemistry Technical & Business Development Manager


Purpose of Job:

Assist Sales personnel by providing expert information as it pertains to chemistry services, offerings and industry needs. This position is responsible for partnering with sales to implement processes designed to help grow the chemistry market, while handling some assigned individual accounts as well as proactively prospecting within open opportunities or known chemistry clients of competitors.

Job Duties

  • Assist Key Account, Premier and Select sales personnel in closing new business by providing timely technical information and proposal support as well as direct client interaction regarding opportunities.
  • Support the close of new business opportunities, which include global MXNS locations that utilize North American services, providing timely and technically sound proposals and support.
  • Function as the liaison between sales, client, customer care, operations, technical support and quality as opportunities are defined, or closed, and serve as the day to day routine technical contact for all parties in your area of expertise.
  • As needed, work directly with other Sales personnel to provide training to the sales and customer care personnel on current topics related to MXNS services.
  • Work with Sales Enablement to create sales tools and documentation needed to efficiently support chemistry growth and client needs, while offering ongoing suggestions to enhance and upgrade current systems.
  • Participate in marketing and sales related activities, such participation in trade shows, review of sales enablement tools, marketing materials.
  • Proactively review sales pipelines and proactively call on active opportunities to assist sales team members with moving forward and closing opportunities as quickly as possible.
  • Identify, through discussion with sales, key chemistry clients of competitors and proactively prospect these clients on a routine basis. Metrics around call expectations will be discussed and defined as needed.
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to the client and company personnel to understand and solve their technical needs and issues.
  • Assist the client with initiation of MXNS onboarding process and become client chemistry point of contact after the closing of the sale.
  • Provide necessary desk top consulting and expertise to maintain client relationship and differentiate MXNS in the marketplace.
  • Identify where gaps are found between client needs and existing MXNS offerings and work with internal personnel (Product Management) to identify means to meet client needs.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in food science and related technologies through available scientific literature and by contributing to scientific publications and presentations.
  • Support corporate quality, marketing and overall continuous improvement to drive market penetration efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

  • Position Requirements

    Knowledge & Skill

    This position requires an advanced knowledge of food chemistry, possibly obtained from a Ph. D. or from an M. S. degree or equivalent experience, to provide technical guidance and expertise to client, quality and laboratory personnel. A thorough knowledge of food science is necessary to provide clients with practical solutions to their problems. A thorough knowledge of laboratory quality systems, Standard Operating Procedures, food testing methods, accreditation requirements and laboratory operating systems is required to ensure the technical proposal and advice given to clients is accurate. Strong sales skills are required as proactive client interaction and prospecting are key aspects of the position. Strong interpersonal skills are required to build and maintain relationships across laboratory and corporate functions. Well-developed oral and written communication skills are essential for effective client, laboratory personnel and corporate staff interactions.

    Client relation skills are needed to provide desk top consulting services to the client. Planning skills are essential to plan, implement, and maintain system changes. A basic knowledge of operating personal computers is necessary to track laboratory information and produce special reports to support the management function.

    The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
